SALINAS, CA – May 6, 2011 –Salinas Police Activities League (PAL) presents ‘Stand-Up Salinas’ with award-winning comedians Rick Najera, Jill-Michele Melean and Johnny Sanchez for a one-night only performance, Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Fox Theatre in Salinas, CA. Proceeds from Stand-Up Salinas will benefit Salinas PAL’s crucial and much needed community youth programs.
Salinas Police Activities League was founded in 1991 by former Police Chief Dan Nelson. Salinas PAL is a non-profit organization that provides recreational, cultural, social and educational activities for the youth of the City of Salinas.
Performers include award-winning writer and comedian Rick Najera whose credits include Showtime’s comedy special ‘Diary of a Dad Man’, ‘Nothing Like the Holidays’, ‘MAD TV’, ‘In Living Color’ and ‘Latinologues on Broadway’. Najera can be seen in Showtime’s upcoming comedy special ‘Legally Brown’ with Tony Plana.
Comedienne Jill-Michele Melean can be seen on Nickelodeon’s ‘Big Time Rush’ and Showtime’s ‘Hot Tamales Live’. Jill was the first and only Latina Cast Member of FOX’s ‘MAD TV’ and has also appeared on Comedy Central’s ‘Reno 911’, Fox’s ‘Til Death’ and more.
Johnny Sanchez is one of America’s premiere comedians and can currently be seen in Showtime’s comedy special ‘3 Non Juans’. He has appeared on ‘The George Lopez Show’, Comedy Central and was a cast member on Fox’s ‘MAD TV’. Johnny’s ‘voice’ starred as Lombardo in the Oscar Winning film ‘Happy Feet’ alongside Robin Williams and Elijah Wood and he just wrapped on “Happy Feet 2″ with Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Sophia Vegara due out late 2011.
Stand-Up Salinas will benefit the Salinas PAL program which organizes many different annual programs coordinated by police officers and staffed by community volunteers. Salinas PAL currently serves more than 2500 children between the ages of 5 to 18 years old. As the programs constantly expand to meet the changing needs and interest of our city’s youth, PAL’s goal remains constant to assist young people in developing meaningful and productive lives.
Salinas Police Activities League presents Stand-Up Salinas, a one-night only performance with Hollywood’s top Latino comedians at the Fox Theater, Thursday, May 12th. Ticket costs range from General Admission ($25), Reserve tickets ($35) to VIP tickets ($75) which include a meet and greet with photo opportunity and be purchased online here.
